PSHE and RSHE: KS3

The PSHE and RSHE curriculum at Tunmarsh School is delivered using the Life Lessons programme, with each half-term dedicated to a different topic or theme in line with the national curriculum framework. All course content is differentiated to meet individual pupil needs and special educational needs (SEN). Lessons are informative and interactive, incorporating debate, discussion, written tasks, video/project work, and visits from external agencies to deliver engaging workshops.

In Year 7 and Year 8, the curriculum follows a clear, structured framework that builds personal awareness and foundational skills, with challenges tailored to pupils' abilities. In Year 9, topics become more complex, requiring students to evaluate, reflect, and express their personal perspectives on wider issues.

Core Themes

  • Health and Wellbeing: Managing mental health and stress, recognizing physical health (including drug, alcohol, tobacco, and vaping education), basic first aid/CPR, and fact-based sexual health education.

  • Relationships and Sex Education (RSHE): Building personal awareness, empathy, and safe, respectful relationships.

  • Living in the Wider World: Developing economic wellbeing and exploring personal rights and responsibilities.

Assessment and Feedback

Students receive regular written and verbal feedback. Progress is moderated and tracked half-termly using an in-house assessment system on CPOMS to highlight progress and identify where targeted support or intervention is required.

KS4

PSHE and RSHE for Year 10 and Year 11 students is central to our commitment to holistic development, equipping young people with the essential knowledge, skills, and resilience needed for adult life and the modern world. To successfully complete the course, students attend lessons through to the end of Year 11, exploring key aspects of mental, physical, and sexual health.

Our KS4 programme integrates statutory requirements with non-statutory topics to provide a comprehensive curriculum tailored to our students:

  • Statutory RSHE & Health Education: Fact-based relationships and sex education, addressing critical issues such as misogyny, incel culture, online safety, sexual risk management, and tackling misinformation/disinformation.

  • Health & Wellbeing: Practical strategies for managing exam pressure and stress, identifying signs of mental ill-health, understanding support pathways, and healthy lifestyle choices.

  • Economic Wellbeing & Post-16 Readiness: Preparing young people to manage their lives, stay safe, protect their health, and prepare for further education or work.

Assessment and Feedback:

Students receive ongoing verbal and written feedback on their work. Attainment and progress are tracked and moderated half-termly via CPOMS to ensure students receive any necessary intervention or support.
