 Nurture Provision

We are proud to be a Nurturing School as we have been awarded the National Nurturing Schools Award by Nurture UK. Our commitment to nurturing is at the heart of everything we do.

Our dedicated nurture classes are designed to provide a supportive and predictable environment for our students. Each class is led by two consistent, caring adults who build strong relationships with the students, providing a sense of safety and consistency.

Our environment

Every morning, our students begin the day with a dedicated pastoral welfare session. This includes activities focused on preparing breakfast together, emotional regulation, and social skills to ensure a positive start to the day. Our classrooms are thoughtfully designed with zoned areas for eating, group work, and individual tasks, which helps reduce anxiety and promote engagement.

The curriculum is broad and is built on the six founding principles of nurture, ensuring that every student's needs are met. Our routines are carefully structured to be predictable, with fewer transitions throughout the day. When transitions do happen, they are well-prepared for and managed by our staff, which helps students feel secure and confident.

Nurture Groups

We have nurture groups across our Newham PRUs, including:

  • Nurture Plus+ (KS3) at Tunmarsh School
  • Nurture Class (KS3) at Tunmarsh School
  • SEMH/Medical Nurture (KS3-4) at Tunmarsh School
  • KS4 Nurture Plus at both Tunmarsh School and New Directions PRU

In July 2022 Newham PRUs (Tunmarsh School, New Directions PRU and Phoenix) were awarded with Nurture UK accreditation. This was a result of several years of hard work in developing and embedding Nurture Principles and Practice across the schools, and then a thorough assessment process.
