Curriculum Intent
At Newham PRUs, our curriculum is designed to transform lives by re-engaging pupils in learning and preparing them for success in education, employment, and life beyond school. We believe that every pupil, regardless of background or starting point, has the potential to achieve and thrive when provided with the right balance of challenge, nurture, and personalised support.
Our curriculum is ambitious, broad, and inclusive, combining the National Curriculum with vocational and life skills pathways that reflect pupils’ individual aspirations and strengths. It is carefully sequenced to build knowledge and skills step by step, helping pupils make meaningful progress from their starting points.
Teaching across all sites is trauma-informed and responsive to pupils’ needs. Staff use their expertise to create safe, engaging learning environments where barriers are removed and pupils can regain confidence in their abilities. A strong focus on literacy, numeracy, and personal development ensures that all pupils develop the essential skills for learning and for life.
Our vocational offer – including Motor Vehicle Maintenance, Employability, and other practical pathways – provides real-world experiences linked to future destinations. This is complemented by high-quality careers and PSHE education, helping pupils make positive, informed choices for their next steps.
Through this combination of academic challenge, practical opportunity, and emotional support, every pupil at Newham PRUs is empowered to leave with the qualifications, confidence, and character needed to create positive futures for themselves and their communities.
