Transition and Progression
The Newham PRUs Transition & Progression Team (TAP) was created in September 2020 and works across all school provisions to oversee the transition and progression process for pupils moving back into a mainstream school and/or another SEND educational provision, or when progressing into Post 16 EET (Employment Education and/or Training) opportunities.
The school’s arrangements for transition and progression is as follows:

Your Child's Right to a Mainstream Education
We believe that every child deserves the chance to return to a mainstream school* after a permanent exclusion. This belief is at the heart of everything we do here.
What Does This Mean for Your Child?
If your child has been permanently excluded or has come to us through the Fair Access Route, there are clear steps and requirements for them to return to a regular school setting.
To show they are ready, your child must:
- Meet All Targets-Successfully complete all the learning and behaviour goals we set for them here at the Pupil Referral Unit (PRU).
- Complete the Placement-Attend the PRU for a minimum of 12 weeks. This time allows us to gather strong evidence that they are prepared to go back to a mainstream classroom.
Support for Special Needs (SEND)
If your child has Special Educational Needs or a Disability (SEND), we understand this can be an extra worry.
If your child is excluded or admitted via the Fair Access Route and has identified SEND, we will do our very best to apply for an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan for them.
This EHC Plan is a legal document that clearly outlines the specific support your child needs. It is crucial for helping them make a smooth and successful move back into a mainstream school or finding the best alternative school placement for their needs.
Progressions:

The 'Progression' aspect focuses on ensuring older students have a secure and ambitious path after they leave the PRU, specifically when moving into Post-16 Education, Employment, and/or Training (EET). Roman Kutereba oversees this crucial area, working with pupils, parents, and external agencies to explore and secure suitable college placements, apprenticeships, or training opportunities that match their skills and aspirations. This includes maintaining strong attendance to ensure they meet the requirements for their next steps.
Moving Forward Together
We believe strongly in partnership with parents. Our Transition & Progression (TAP) Team is dedicated to ensuring your child has the best possible outcome, whether that is a return to a mainstream school, entry into another specialist provision, or moving successfully into post-16 opportunities (Employment, Education, and Training - EET).
Please do not hesitate to reach out directly to the relevant contact person above if you have any questions about your child's progress, the 12-week requirement, or the EHC Plan application process. We are here to support your child's success.
*Note on Age: Our support for transition back into a mainstream school typically applies up to the end of Year 10. In Year 11, our focus shifts strategically to securing the right post-16 setting for their Key Stage 5 progression.
