Remote Learning

What happens?

Digital Remote Learning

We are able to deliver education remotely for those students who are unable to attend an onsite provision due to individual circumstances. Lessons are delivered via online platforms in addition to working directly with outreach teaching and support staff. When educating in the home as part of a blended learning facility, Newham PRUs will deliver as close to the same curriculum as is delivered within the classroom. Highly specialised and skilled staff are able to innovate and have developed an educational platform that supports the vulnerable learners to learn remotely.

Where an individual pupil has been identified as requiring remote learning, either through our internal gatekeeping process or a Medical Digital Remote referral, Newham PRUs have the capacity to offer immediate access to remote education. We aim to deliver the same quality and level of education utilising the latest technology, but where the curriculum is delivered via the remote learning platform, Google Classroom.

Remote Learning Schedule:

  • Digital Remote Learning Schedule:

    • Pupil identified as requiring access to remote learning:
      • ○ Medical referral.
      • ○ Gatekeeping referral.
  • Remote Learning Team (RLT) will make contact with home.
  • Student is allocated the appropriate online timetable.
  • Chromebook is delivered to the student’s home by the RLT.
  • Pupils receive a timetable, student guide and login details.
  • Parents and pupils sign an Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) agreement.
  • Any problems can be reported to the RLT by student/parent/carer.

Pupils use the same login as they have in school and the Chromebooks are set up to only be used as school devices. School’s Chromebooks are filtered using the RM SafetyNet system for educational purposes. Teachers set work that is accessible to students via Google classroom. Lessons are timetabled and have a teacher present, who makes direct contact with pupils using Google classroom. During lessons, time is put in place, for work set by the teacher to be completed independently by the pupil.

  • Support via regular visits and phone calls from the TEP Team.
  • Placement Review (at least every 6-weeks according to need).
  • The Remote Learning Team (RLT) supports online learning.
  • Google Classroom allows access to learning 24/7.

Our Targets

Newham PRUs is striving to further develop remote learning and the Google Classroom experience and as such, 2023/2024 will be a year of even further development and exploration. Our targets are simple but achievable and we hope to build a solid provision for all of our students. We aim to:

  • Ensure all students have access to the resources necessary for learning.
  • Ensure all students are able to access a full and broad curriculum.
  • Have clear systems in place to support remote learning, with a single point of contact for home.
  • Have robust filtering systems in place for pupil internet safety.
  • Develop online resources further to support and consolidate previously taught content, with special emphasis on differentiation.
  • Have daily interaction with students, developing synchronous and asynchronous lessons.
  • Use Chromebooks onsite for learning.
  • Develop marking and assessment systems in Google Classroom.
  • Develop the Google platform for whole school use.
  • Develop staff to qualify as Google educators.
  • Support mentoring and therapeutic interventions using Google.
  • Deliver seamless blended learning using online and paper-based resources as appropriate.
  • Show clear pathways for onsite and remote learning.
  • Regularly review the progress of all pupils to ensure that the education meets their individual needs.
